Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises – An Overview

IEC is a mandatory prerequisite to starting a business of import or export in India, it is obtained from director general of foreign trade (DGFT). The IEC is a pan based registration and hence against one pan only one IE Code can be obtained. In fact new IE codes issued are applicant’s 10 digit PAN only.

No other authorisation, license or permission is required for import export business of most of the commodities. However in order to regulate the trade of some specific commodities, central government may restrict or prohibit the import or export of such commodities. If one wish to import/ export any such restricted or prohibited goods, an application for license or permission to import/export can be made to the DGFT explaining the reasons for such import/export.


Basic Requirements For MSME Registration!

Class-2 Digital signature

All IEC registration applications are submitted by using digital signatures certificate (DSC)as physical signing of application has been done away with. Incase you already have a valid class-2 DSC, it can also be used to file the application. relevant cost of the same will be reduced from the fee quoted above.

Cancelled Cheque

In case you have recently registered a company and yet to open a bank account, you need to wait for your bank account before apllying for IEC as canceled cheque of the company/ entity applying for IEC is a mandatory requirement for obtaining IEC. Name of the company/ entity must be clearly visible on the cheque leaf.
